Northern Districts has confirmed the appointment of Daniel Flynn to the role of Performance and Talent Coach – Female for the upcoming season.

Flynn is no stranger to ND, captaining the side for seven years before retiring in 2020. He also made 49 International appearances for the BLACKCAPS in a professional cricket career that spanned 16 years.

His role will primarily focus on providing assistant coach support to Joanne Broadbent and the ND women’s programme, as well as working with our best young female players in the Regional Academy programme.

Flynn has had coaching involvement in ND talent programmes since 2015, working with many of the district talented young players as well as being the head coach of the Bay of Plenty Men’s side since 2020.

“It’s a new challenge for me, one I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully I can add some value to the women’s programme. From a personal perspective, it’s a great opportunity to learn off Jo who has a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience,” said Flynn.

Northern Districts GM Performance and Talent Ian Sandbrook confirmed Flynn will remain in Tauranga, allowing him to continue his Bay of Plenty coaching role around his ND commitments, and ensuring a geographical spread for the overall coaching network.

“It’s fantastic that we have someone of Daniel’s capability and experience joining our female performance programme. His appointment reflects our commitment to a coaching pathway and collaboration with our District Associations,” said Sandbrook.

“Our system working is to work collaboratively to retain and support quality people that will help develop our next generation of international cricketers. His combination with Joanne Broadbent is exciting and we know our players will be receiving the highest quality coaching,” said Sandbrook.

ND women’s contracts will increase from nine to 12 for the 2022-23 season following the recent announcement of the new ground-breaking master agreement which is set to commence on 1 August 2022 and covers a period of five years.
