An all-round performance from Mitch Santner propels the Northern Brave (M) to a four wicket win over the Wellington Firebirds in the capital today.

The BLACKCAPS all-rounder blasted a new career best in T20 cricket with a match winning 59 from 35 balls. He struck four sixes in his innings, one of which shattered a window at the New Zealand Cricket Museum. Earlier with the ball, he was the most economical bowler for the visitors and finished with 1-23 from his four overs.

Wellington got off to a fast start as they were 100/1 after 8.4 overs. But a fantastic comeback from our bowlers saw them bowled out for 167 in the final over. Joe Walker (3-36) and Tim Southee (3-20) lead the comeback, picking up three wickets each.

In the women’s match our girls put up a great fight against the Blaze but ultimately fell 54 runs short. Kate Anderson top was the best with the bat, top scoring with 37 and Eimear Richardson led the way with ball, finishing with 3-27 from her four overs. Brooke Halliday (2-22) and Nensi Patel (2-36) also chipped in two wickets apiece.

That brings to a close the Dream11 Super Smash season for our girls while our men will now look ahead to Saturday’s home Grand Final at Seddon Park.
