Suzanne Aubert Catholic School Cricket Experience Inspires Tamariki On and Off the Field24 Oct 2025

Suzanne Aubert Catholic School recently played host to an unforgettable cricket experience, combining the growing interest in the sport with an innovative school fundraiser initiative. The event, born from the PTFA’s interactive auction idea, gave the school community a unique opportunity to engage with cricket in a hands-on and inspiring way.

The auction was won by the Cartwright family – Joe, a student at Suzanne Aubert, Katie, a teacher, and her husband Stu – who helped make the day possible for the entire school.

With a former batter for Northern Districts, Central Districts and school parent on board, Brett Randell helped to turn the idea into an exciting and memorable event for all involved.

Reflecting on the day, organisers said the experience was a huge success and one they hope to build on in the future.

"This was the 1st time we had put on an event like this," said the organisers. "We think it went extremely well and were very stoked to have the 6 players who were able to spread themselves throughout the activities.
Having the mixture of Q&A, mini games, and cricket challenges kept the children engaged throughout. Hopefully the next time we do something like this the school has a proper cricket pitch, another school feature for the PTFA to fundraise for!"

From the moment the players arrived, the buzz around the school was undeniable. The event offered more than just a chance to watch; children participated in Q&A sessions, mini-games, and cricket challenges, developing curiosity, confidence, and a newfound appreciation for the game. For some, it may have even sparked the start of their own cricket journey, following in the footsteps of players who started at primary school age.

“A hugely successful and enjoyable day! Our students, teachers, and whānau thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The players’ enthusiasm was amazing – you could see the excitement on the students’ faces as they ran up for autographs, not wanting the day to end. A massive thank you to the Northern Districts Cricket Association for making it such a memorable experience. You are a true inspiration to our tamariki!”
– Quintin Moolman, Sports Coordinator and Teacher

With the success of this inaugural cricket experience day, Suzanne Aubert School has set the stage for future events that will continue to inspire and engage students in both sport and community.

Northern Districts Cricket is proud to support initiatives that grow the game at grassroots level and inspire the next generation of cricketers.
